ECBA Autumn Conference 2026, 2 and 3 October in Tirana, Albania
Mark your calendars for the upcoming ECBA Autumn Conference 2026, taking place on 2 and 3 October 2026 in the vibrant city of Tirana, Albania. Our main conference will be hosted at the Tirana International Hotel and Congress Center.
We are incredibly honoured to announce our Keynote Speaker for this autumn: Professor Margaret Satterthwaite, the United Nations Special Rapporteur on the independence of judges and lawyers.
Professor Satterthwaite is an esteemed international human rights scholar, practitioner, and Professor of Law at New York University School of Law. In addition to delivering the keynote address, she will also be directly leading one of our afternoon breakout sessions.
While we are finalising the schedule, we are excited to share the general framework and estimated core topics for our panels and breakout sessions:
- Panel Sessions addressing critical regional and global developments, including:
- Anti-Money Laundering in Emerging Markets
- Justice Reforms and the path to EU Accession – a deep dive into the role of justice and procedural safeguards en route.
- Interactive Breakout Sessions featuring focused, smaller discussion groups covering:
- Effective Criminal Defence (co-led by ECBA Chair Vânia Costa Ramos and UN Special Rapporteur Margaret Satterthwaite)
- Cybercrime
- Extradition/Assurances issues
To conclude the conference, we will gather for dinner at the spectacular Gzona Restaurant, located within the historic Tirana Castle.
